Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran in NSW is Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, making it the perfect spot for stargazing, amateur astronomy and camping under the starriest of skies.

The Breadknife, easily the most recognisable feature within the park, towers 90m above the valley floor and is a symbol of the park’s enduring importance and resilience. The Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk is recognised as one of the best walks in NSW, with close up views of the park's iconic rock formations.

Whether you’re into camping, walking, birdwatching or astronomy, the park's big sky, amazing light and dramatic rock formations make it an outstanding place for amateur and professional photographers.

Trip Leader: Sharon Roberts

Co-leader: Liz Freeman

Cost on booking for tent camping - 4 nights at Camp Blackman (2 people and 1 car per site); 1 night Balor remote campground; 1 night Burbie remote campground. 6 nights at $58.35 per person. Payment required to secure your place. I WILL CONTACT YOU WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF BOOKING TO EXPLAIN PAYMENT DETAILS

NPWS website says 75% refund less booking fee more than 30 days before trip start; 50% refund less booking fee after that.  However, because I've paid the money up front as a group booking I don't think Parks will give a partial refund. So, the only way to get a refund will be if someone else takes your spot and refunds you!

This event will be a mix of car camping, day walks and 2 overnight Grade 4 hikes. If you have not done a Grade 3 overnight hike with the club before to qualify for joining this Grade 4 event or are not equipped or ready for this level of difficulty, Iris is running another event at the same time with easier day walks. This event is perfect if you have a partner who would prefer to do the easier walks. We will all be camping together at the start of the weekend, and both groups will be doing the easier day hikes together.
