Tuesday walk - Mt Glenrowan: 10km grade 3
MEET at the Hume Freeway petrol station at McKoy St, West Wodonga to arrange car pooling at 9am or at the trail head in Glenrowan at 10am.
There is no better place to view the Ovens Valley, King Valley and the Victorian
Alps than from the vantage point that is known as Mt Glenrowan.
If it is a sunny day we will get to see the snow on the alps !!!
This 10 km return hike to the Mt Glenrowan Lookout (aka Mt Kelly) begins from the stile
(Parks Vic gate) at Chick Hill Track site. The walk has an elevation gain of 383m. To access the track (driving) take Wirrinya Ave off
Warby Range Rd (Glenrowan). There is vehicle parking at the stile and it is signposted.
At the commencement of the walk there is one steep section for 1km, leading up to the Chick Hill
Lookout (signposted) while the remainder is moderate to easy. There are plenty of ‘orange’
arrow markers on posts and trees to keep you on track. The track itself is well foot marked.
Just remember if you summit Chick Hill (lookout), to return back to the main track to
continue towards Ridge Tk.
The steepness of the initial climb to Ridge Tk gets the heart beat up, and the undulating track of red earth, large and small granite stones and uneven terrain keeps you focused. There is plenty of scenic views and lovely native vegetation to
enjoy, including a widespread area of Xanthorrhoea australis, the native ‘black boy’ grass trees.
Bring morning tea and lunch to have on the track.
No dogs allowed and no toilets on this walk.
Please note that the walk will be subject to any adverse weather conditions.
For any late cancellations; please call me on 0456 100 183.
