Wheelers Hut Overnight Hike 21km Grade 3 CAPPED AT 12
Overnight backpacking hike Grade 3, meeting in Corryong 7.30am and starting with a car shuffle for the end of the walk so we have cars at Tooma Dam.
Anyone wanting to camp close by on Friday night 30 January, can book a campsite at Clover Flat, or stay in Corryong. It's a 45 minute drive from Corryong. Meeting place in Corryong TBA.
Starting point of hike is the Snakey Plains Trailhead on Cabramurra Rd - what3words address is sprawl.lousy.alcove
Finishing point of hike is the Paton's Hut Trailhead at Tooma Dam - what3words address is wrangle.really.redeye
After the car shuffle, we start hiking from the Snakey Plains trailhead, having morning tea and lunch along the track.
Set up camp and enjoy the serenity at Wheeler's Hut 9km. After setting up camp, you may like to walk down to the Tooma River and have a swim or just relax at camp and enjoy the serenity.
There is water from a spring near the campsite, but it will need to be treated by water filter or sterilisation tablets.
Next day after brekky we make our way down to the Tooma river, cross over and head towards Paton's Hut on the Dargals Trail. Morning Tea or Lunch at Patons Hut. 12km
Bring water Shoes for the river crossing!!!!
Registrations will close on Friday 23 January or if we reach the maximum number of 12 people, so the car pool and car shuffle can be arranged. Bring cash to pay car drivers.
GRADE 3
Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Track may have short steep hill sections, a rough surface and many steps.
Bushwalk - Multi Day hike - What to bring
- Up-to-date ICE (In Case of Emergency) form - ICE Form
- Tent (sharing sections of the tent is an option)
- Sleeping Bag and Liner
- Mattress and Pillow
- Thermals - top and bottom
- Second layer - top and bottom
- Extra hiking clothes
- Socks - inner socks are recommended with wool socks over the top
- Warm Gloves and beanie
- Water tight bag to keep clothing dry - zip lock - dry bags etc..
- Waterproof jacket and pants
- Down jacket
- Fleece jacket
- Camp shoes (Crocs)
- Warm Gloves and Waterproof Over Glove plus a Beanie or suitable walking hat.
- Toothbrush and paste
- Medication (please inform leader of any medical conditions etc).
- Personal first aid kit. For prevention of blisters, packing a blister kit, hiking wool, tape etc can be a life saver.
- Water to drink (2lt per day) and extra to prepare meals (some locations and walks have water on-site or en-route). Leaders should inform the group re: water supply
- Water purification tablets or device (be safe rather than get a bug)
- Toilet paper, trowel and sanitiser (There is a drop toilet at the hut but none along the trail)
- Food - Dehydrated is best for weight considerations
- 3 Meals , plus snacks. per day.
- Stove (this may be shared between members). Pot for cooking
- Plate, cutlery and cup

- The leader must take a rescue beacon
